Performance plays a key role, with each participant bringing a unique perspective shaped by their relationship to the work and their surroundings.
Through mapping space and framing gestures, these pieces act as tools to explore identity and its ability to flow harmoniously between different environments.
At its core, the series asks whether it’s possible to ease transitions between cultural spaces—finding the correct degree of interaction. By reflecting on how relationships stretch, unite, or detach, the work encourages us to consider how our environments shape the way we connect with one another.

This series serves as the foundation for much of my later work, exploring how human relationships shift in response to different environments. The pieces themselves act as borders—both connecting and disconnecting—never allowing direct contact between the hands.
To help viewers better understand the work's dynamism, I created a video after completing the series. The video demonstrates the various ways these pieces can be worn or used, highlighting their adaptability and potential for interaction.

“The piece that impacted me the most though was a quiet video of two hands coming together in the screen to touch and to move the jewelry pieces from one hand to another. These simple gestures of exchange are poetic meditations that provoke reflections on reciprocity and transfer: how we give gifts, how we greet one another and how we interact across the boundaries between one person and another, and more metaphorically between nations or cultures.” – John Pluecker
