Resembling a traditional engagement ring, Mirage reinterprets this symbol of promise and commitment as a conceptual reflection on unattainable aspirations. Crafted entirely from sterling silver, the piece is intentionally designed to be unwearable, with a center opening that is either completely solid or too small for a finger.
At its center, a cubic zirconia mimics a diamond, highlighting the border's illusory nature. The stone’s superficial sparkle underscores the seductive promise of opportunity that often remains out of reach, especially for those living on the margins.

“Mirage” is a contemporary jewelry piece shaped by the artist's personal experiences in the border region of Juarez and El Paso. While the artist once saw the border as a place of fluidity and cultural exchange—a perspective influenced by holding dual nationality—recent events, including the impact of Covid-19 and heightened socio-political tensions, have revealed its deeper complexities and inequalities.

This body of work encapsulates the border as a potent symbol of both opportunity and unfulfilled expectations, juxtaposing allure with harsh reality—a shimmering promise of prosperity that, for many, remains just out of reach.
Through its design, Mirage invites contemplation of the tension between hope and disillusionment, aspiration and limitation. The inability to wear the piece heightens its symbolic weight, becoming a powerful reminder of the systemic barriers intertwined with the pursuit of El Sueno Americano.
