A Community Art Project to give a voice and creative platform for families struggling with immigration issues to share their culture and experiences. Artwork from her workshops with ICE detainees from Otero County Prison and La Mujer Obrera youth were on display at Centro De Los Trabajadores Agrícolas Fronterizos. The exhibition was meant to raise awareness of the immigrants’ hardships and their journey to find a better life. “MAGA: Doors Not Walls” offers a creative outlet for first generation immigrant children and solidarity to ICE detainees. Immigration is a heavily disputed topic in the United States, and it’s important to raise awareness of the laws that lead to family separation and arbitrary treatment of human beings. There is a human side to all of this; these are fathers, mothers and grandparents in distress, seeking better opportunities for themselves and their loved ones.
